ASTM A572 grade 50 wide flange H beam is a high strength low alloy structural steel with a yield strength of ≥50 ksi (345 MPa) and a tensile strength of 65 ksi (450 MPa), and has excellent bending and shear properties. A572 grade 50 steel is designed with niobium-vanadium microalloying, with a carbon content of ≤0.23%, and has good weldability, suitable for load-bearing structures such as buildings and bridges.
The cross sectional design of A572 grade 50 H beam optimizes material distribution, such as the flange width of W16×36 specification is about 6.99 inches, the web thickness is 0.295 inches, the unit weight is light and the moment of inertia is high (Iₓ≈448 in⁴), suitable for large-span projects. Compared with ASTM A992, A572 grade 50 is lower in cost, but the toughness requirement is relatively low.
A572 grade 50 steel can be produced by hot rolling or normalizing process, with thickness ranging from 8-300mm, and is widely used in industrial plants, machinery manufacturing and other fields.
