ASTM 316L is the low carbon version of ASTM316 and has very high immunity from sensitization (grain boundary carbide precipitation). ASTM 316L is extensively used in the oil and gas and chemical industries for its cost effective corrosion resistance and ease of fabrication.
Features:

The austenitic structure of ASTM 316L also gives these grades excellent toughness, even down to cryogenic temperatures. Compared to chromium-nickel austenitic stainless steels, ASTM 316L stainless steel offers higher creep, stress to rupture and tensile strength at elevated temperatures.
ASTM 316L Stainless Steel Finishes:
2B Finish—Smooth finish produced by cold rolling, annealing and descaling. The cold rolling is accomplished with polished rolls giving it a brighter finish than 2D.
2D Finish—Dull finish produced by cold rolling, annealing and descaling. Used for deep drawn parts and those parts that need to retain lubricants in the forming process.
BA Finish— Bright annealed cold rolled and bright annealed.
