API 5L X42 line pipe is also L290 steel pipe (Line Pipe in 290 Mpa yield strength). API 5L X42 is a medium grade in the API 5L specifications, which is commonly used for pipeline transportation systems in the petroleum and natural gas industries.
API SEPCS 5L X42 line pipe is a higher grade than API 5L Gr.B steel applied in oil and gas pipeline systems. Since API 5L has various grades up to X100, so grade X42 is an low-medium level steel, therefor it requires large quantities in most of pipelines.
