Mr Mahendra Reddy, Commerce Commission chair, said that the new steel prices for grade 300 have been reduced by 3.14% from USD 1908.71 per tonne to USD 1848.77 per tonne while for grade 500 have been reduced from USD 1975.47 per tonne to USD 1913.43 per tonne. While making the announcement today, the reduction in the price of steel provides major relief to different sectors of the economy.

Mr Reddy said that two weeks have been given for businesses selling steel to clear out whats on their shelves in order to make room for the new changes Attorney General and Minister for Trade Aiyaz Sayed-Khaiyum said the 3% cut in steel prices is positive news for the construction sector and the latest changes will be positive news for the Fijian economy. He said that the new change will be most welcome by the industrial sectors.
