UK plans to extend protection measures for 15 types of steel

On February 21st, the Trade Remedies Authority (TRA) in the UK released preliminary investigation results, proposing to extend the protection measures for 15 steel products in the UK for an additional two years until June 2026, aiming to protect the UK steel industry from the impact of a surge in imports.

It is reported that the protection measures covering 15 types of steel products in the UK will expire on June 30, 2024. In September 2023, the UK Trade Relief Authority began an extended investigation into this safeguard measure, which includes hot-rolled and cold-rolled plates, color coated plates, steel bars, wire rods, and other steel products. The UK Trade Relief Office found during its investigation that if the safeguard measures expire, it may "lead to a surge in imports". If the safeguard measures are lifted, British production enterprises are likely to suffer "serious harm" again.
