What is low temperature resistant steel

Low temperature resistant steel (steels for low temperature service) refers to alloy steel suitable for applications below 0℃. Those that can be used below -196℃ are called cryogenic steel or ultra-low temperature steel.

Low temperature resistant steel should mainly have the following properties:
①Toughness-brittleness transition temperature is lower than the service temperature;
②The strength to meet the design requirements;
③The organization structure is stable under the operating temperature;
④Good weldability and processing formability;
⑤Some special applications also require extremely low magnetic permeability and cold shrinkage.

Application range of low temperature resistant steel:
The lowest operating temperature of cryogenic steel in petroleum gas cryogenic separation equipment is -110℃, and in some equipment, it can reach -150℃. In air separation equipment, the lowest operating temperature can reach -196℃, generally 9% Nickel steel or austenitic low temperature steel. The liquid hydrogen production, storage and transportation equipment with a working temperature of -253℃, and the liquid helium equipment with a working temperature of -269℃ should use austenitic low-temperature steel with stable structure. With the continuous development of science and technology and the large-scale petrochemical equipment, the consumption of low temperature resistant steel will continue to increase, which gives birth to unlimited business opportunities.
