Laser welding parameters and weld quality inspection for 3mm thick 5083 aluminum sheets

Laser Welding Parameters: For 3mm thick 5083 aluminum sheets, a fiber laser power of 4Kw and a welding speed of 8m/min are recommended. Combining the CMT hybrid process significantly reduces spatter and improves efficiency. Heat input must be controlled during welding to prevent thermal cracking. The fishbone specimen restraint method is recommended for testing thermal cracking potential.

5083 Aluminum Sheet Weld Quality Inspection: Key testing focuses on airtightness (target value ≤ 1×10⁻⁸ mbar・L/s) and microstructure, observing the uniform distribution of the Mg₂Si phase in the α(Al) matrix. Metallographic analysis confirms the weld is crack-free, and the joint tensile strength is tested to ensure it meets the parent material standards.
