General properties of 2205 duplex stainless steel

2205 duplex stainless steel is consisting of 22% chromium, 3% molybdenum and 5-6% nickel nitrogen. 2205 duplex stainless steel has high strength, good impact toughness and good overall and local resistance to stress corrosion. Compared with 316 and 316L austenitic stainless steel, 2205 duplex stainless steel has superior resistance to pitting corrosion and interstitial corrosion. It has high corrosion resistance, lower thermal expansion coefficient and higher thermal conductivity.

The yield strength of 2205 duplex stainless steel is twice that of austenitic stainless steel. This characteristic enables designers to reduce weight in designing products, giving 2205 duplex stainless steel a price advantage over 316 stainless steel,316L stainless steel. 2205 duplex stainless steel is especially suitable for the temperature range of -50 degree F/+600 degree F. 2205 duplex stainless steel may also be considered for applications beyond this temperature range, but there are some limitations, especially when applied to welded structures.
