ASTM A572 grade 50 HR steel coil, a high-strength, low-alloy structural steel, combines excellent mechanical properties with processing characteristics. Its minimum yield strength reaches 50 ksi (345 MPa), and its uniform microstructure is achieved through the hot rolling (HR) process. It is particularly suitable for applications subject to dynamic loads, such as building steel structures and engineering equipment frames.
A572 grade 50 material maintains excellent impact toughness at -40℃, and its carbon equivalent is controlled below 0.45%, ensuring weldability. A naturally formed protective oxide scale reduces the risk of short-term corrosion, and a 1500-hour salt spray test demonstrates superior weathering resistance to ordinary carbon steel. Standard coil weights range from 18 to 22 tons, and custom thicknesses from 1.2 to 25.4 mm are available.
It is recommended for applications requiring an optimized weight-to-strength ratio, such as bridge components and tower crane booms. Low-hydrogen welding rods are recommended, and the bend radius during cold bending must be greater than twice the plate thickness. Regular inspection of stress concentration areas can extend service life to over 25 years.
