Detailed explanation of S420M steel plate

S420M steel plate is a European standard alloy structural steel plate. Alloy steel is based on carbon steel. In order to improve the performance of steel, one or more alloy elements are added. When the amount of alloy added exceeds the normal content of carbon steel, this type of steel is called alloy steel. When the total alloy content is less than 5%, it is referred to as low alloy steel. Generally, low alloy steel is less than 3.5%, and alloy content between 5-10% is referred to as medium alloy steel. If the total alloy content is greater than 10%, it is referred to as high alloy steel.

Chemical composition of S420M steel plate:
Carbon C: between 0.51 and 0.59; Manganese Mn: between 0.50 and 0.80; Sulfur S: allowable residual content ≤ 0.025; Phosphorus P: allowable residual content ≤ 0.025; Chromium Cr: between 0.50 and 0.80; Nickel Ni: allowable residual content ≤ 0.35; Copper Cu: allowable residual content ≤ 0.25; PS: The actual chemical composition is subject to the steel mill's material specification.

Mechanical properties of S420M steel plate:
Yield strength ≥ 420 MPa;
Tensile strength 520 to 680 MPa;
Elongation δ 5(%):≥6;
Reduction of area ψ (%):≥25;
Hardness ≤ 321HBW;

Delivery of S420M steel plate:
S420M steel plate is delivered as thermomechanically rolled; Steel plates shall be delivered by shearing or flame cutting.
