The common technological properties of 321 stainless steel sheet

The common technological properties of 321 stainless steel sheet are malleability, foundry, weldability and machinability. These properties are very important in the processing and application of 321 stainless steel materials, which will closely affect the quality of finished products. Therefore, the understanding of these properties needs to be adequate.

First, malleability refers to 321 stainless steel sheet material can change the shape without cracking a performance in pressure processing. It can be hammered, rolled, stretched and extruded under hot or cold conditions. The quality of forgability mainly depends on the chemical composition of 321 stainless steel material.

The second is foundability, which means that 321 stainless steel sheet material can be used to obtain the properties of qualified castings by casting method. Castability mainly includes fluidity, shrinkage and segregation. Fluidity refers to the performance of liquid metal filled with mold; shrinkage refers to the degree of volume shrinkage when the casting solidifies; segregation refers to the unevenness of chemical composition and microstructure in 321 stainless steel sheet during cooling and solidification due to different crystallization sequence.

Weldability is also called solderability, specifically referring to the adaptability of 321 stainless steel sheet material to welding. Mainly refers to the degree of difficulty in obtaining high quality welded joints for 321 stainless steel sheets under certain welding conditions. It includes two aspects: one is the bonding performance, that is, under certain welding process conditions, the formation of weld defects sensitivity; the other is the use of performance, that is, under certain welding process conditions, the applicability of welded joints to the use requirements.

The last is machinability, also known as machinability and machinability. It refers specifically to the difficulty of 321 stainless steel sheet material after being machined by cutting tools. The machinability is usually measured by the surface roughness of the workpiece after machining, the allowable cutting speed and the degree of tool wear. It is related to the chemical composition, mechanical properties, thermal conductivity and work hardening degree of 321 stainless steel sheet material. It is usually used to roughly judge the quality of cutting with hardness and toughness. Generally speaking, the hardness of 321 stainless steel sheet material is higher, the more difficult to cut. In addition, if the hardness is not high, but toughness is high, the material is also more difficult to cut.
