Grade 2 titanium plate welding requires strict control of gas protection, using argon gas with a purity ≥99.99%, and ensuring full protection of the welding area (including the molten pool and the heat-affected zone above 400℃) to prevent oxidation. Before welding, thoroughly clean the bevel and welding wire surface of oil and oxide layers, use acetone for cleaning, and maintain a clean environment. Operators must wear clean gloves.
Welding parameters should use low heat input (6-35KJ/cm), low current, and slow welding speed, with an interpass temperature ≤200℃ to avoid grain coarsening. Special attention should be paid to preventing porosity defects; argon gas flow rate should be controlled to avoid turbulence, and pulsed TIG welding should be used to reduce heat input. After welding, argon purging should be delayed until the weld cools to below 100℃ to ensure effective protection.
