40Cr steel flats characteristics
The steel is moderately priced and easy to process. After proper heat treatment, certain toughness, plasticity and wear resistance can be obtained. Normalizing can promote the spheroidization of the structure and improve the cutting performance of the blank with a hardness less than 160HBS. Tempering at a temperature of 550~570℃, the steel has good comprehensive mechanical properties. The hardenability of 40Cr alloy steel is higher than that of 45 steel, and it is suitable for surface hardening treatments such as high frequency quenching and flame quenching.

Heat Treatment and Performance Analysis of 40Cr steel flats
After quenching and tempering, it has good comprehensive mechanical properties, good low temperature impact toughness and low notch sensitivity. The hardenability of steel is good, this kind of steel is suitable for cyanidation and high frequency quenching in addition to quenching and tempering treatment. The cutting performance is better. When the hardness is HB174～229, the relative machinability is 60%. The steel is suitable for making medium-sized plastic molds.
