Pipeline steel is a kind of steel with special requirements used for transporting oil, natural gas and other pipelines. At present, the development trend of pipeline engineering is large diameter, high pressure gas transportation, cold and corrosive service environment, and thick wall of submarine pipeline.
The performance requirements of pipeline steel plates, sheets and coils mainly include the following aspects:
(1) High strength. The strength indexes of pipeline steel mainly include tensile strength and yield strength. While high strength is required, the yield strength ratio (yield strength to tensile strength ratio) of pipeline steel is also required, which is generally required to be in the range of 0.85-0.93.
(2) High impact toughness. Pipeline steel should have enough impact toughness (crack initiation and crack arrest toughness).
(3) Low ductile brittle transition temperature. Severe regional and climatic conditions require that pipeline steel should have enough low ductile brittle transition temperature.
(4) Pipeline steel plates, sheets and coils should have excellent resistance to hydrogen induced cracking (HIC) and sulfide stress corrosion cracking (SSCC).
(5) Good welding performance. Good weldability of pipeline steel is very important to ensure the integrity of pipeline and field welding quality.
