Martensitic stainless steel does not only own the basic corrosion resistance, but also can be strengthened by heat treatment. Martensitic stainless steel usually contains 12%-18% Chromium, and a small amount of austenite stabilizing elements C and Ni. Martensitic stainless steel basic components are 12%-17%Cr, 0.1%-1.0%C, 0-1%Ni, sometimes added molybdenum, vanadium, niobium, copper and other elements.
410 stainless steel is the basic martensitic stainless steel; like most non-stainless steels 410 stainless steel can be hardened by a "quench-and-temper" heat treatment. 410 stainless steel contains a minimum of 11.5 percent chromium, just sufficient to give corrosion resistance properties.
